OCRS is a DVSA risk-targeting system. These answers explain how the system works rather than predicting enforcement decisions.
What is OCRS used for?
DVSA uses the Operator Compliance Risk Score to help decide which operator vehicles are more likely to be inspected. A higher-risk score makes roadside selection more likely, but the score is not itself a complete assessment of overall compliance.
Which scores appear on an OCRS report?
Each operator licence can have a roadworthiness score, a traffic score and a combined score. Roadworthiness events include matters such as vehicle tests and defects, while traffic events include drivers’ hours, tachograph and other traffic-related offences.
How far back does OCRS look?
Current DVSA guidance states that OCRS uses a rolling three-year period. Older events receive reduced weighting and events more than three years old are removed.
Why might an operator have no score?
A new operator or one with no relevant DVSA interaction during the rolling period may have no score and appear as grey or unknown. Operators using only vehicles exempt from operator licensing will not have OCRS.
